Do You Know The Signs Of A Vitamin D Deficiency?
Do you know the signs that might indicate that you could be suffering from a Vitamin D deficiency?
A couple of years ago, I had low energy for no apparent reason.
My doctor suggested adding vitamin D to my yearly blood panel.
I got the Vitamin D result back and it was a little shocking!
The test revealed that my Vitamin D Level was extremely low at 36.4 ng/mL.
To raise my level, my doctor told me to immediately start taking 4000 I.U.s per day of Vitamin D3.
I did that for a year or so.
Surprisingly, my next vitamin D blood level had risen to 69 ng/mL, and so did my energy levels!
During that time, I suggested that my husband Mark have his D tested along with his yearly blood panel.
Mark worked outside most everyday, so I assumed his level would be high or at least normal.
His results came back at 20 ng/mL!
I was stunned that his level was even lower than mine. He had a true Vitamin D deficiency!
This may explain why he frequently complained of exhaustion.
He too was advised to take Vitamin D3, 4000 I.U.s per day.
His next test, a year later, revealed that his went even higher than mine!
“It is preferred that you get your Vitamin D from the sun first and foremost and to only use supplementation as an added aide to get your levels increased to where it needs to be” as noted in the book The Vitamin D Solution.
Where should you your vitamin D level be?
Ideally the sweet spot should land between 60-80 ng/mL.
Below 20 ng/mL is considered deficient while below 30 ng/mL is insufficient.
Again, upwards of two-thirds of the American population is Vitamin D deficient right now.
This is directly impacting health to the extent that ailments like osteoporosis, heart disease, cancer, autoimmune diseases, insomnia, arthritis, diabetes, chronic pain, psoriasis, autism and so much are likely a direct result of these deficiencies.

What If You Have Dark Skin?
The Vitamin D Solution also mentions that darker skinned people have more trouble absorbing Vitamin D, which explains why Mark, being Filipino, was only at a 20. Shocking, right?
Mark has been taking Vitamin D for a while now and claims to have more energy like I did when I started taking it.
Low Vitamin D in CA?
My best friend in California was feeling tired all the time as well. Did you hear that?
She lives in California, the land of sunshine.
I explained to her about low Vitamin D levels and suggested testing
She went and had hers checked and guess what? She was low too!
She starting taking a supplement and her energy came back!
Get your Vitamin D Tested!
If you haven’t gotten your Vitamin D levels tested, you may want to check with your doctor to see if it can be included along with your normal yearly blood panel.
Also, check to see if your insurance covers it.
Even if it doesn’t, it’s worth knowing if you are low, so (if needed) you can bring your levels up to a normal range.
Vitamin D Deficiency is not something you want to live with especially if you don’t have to!
Have your vitamin D levels been checked? Please share!
